On behalf of the Translational Medicine and Applied Biotechnology Working Group of Drexel University College of Medicine and Drexel University, I wish to invite you to attend the upcoming Symposium “Horizons in Plasma Medicine”. We would like to encourage basic and clinical scientists, engineers, clinical fellows, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students and medical students to attend. The Workshop is scheduled for Saturday, April 18, 2009 from 8:30am -4pm at Geary Auditorium A, New College Building on the Center City Campus. This workshop is free and lunch will be provided.

Registration for this event is requested by emailing: research@drexelmed.edu by April 1, 2009.
Poster abstracts for submission to research@drexelmed.edu by April 7, 2009.

The goal of this workshop is to encourage an exchange of ideas focusing on plasma medicine among varied disciplines in the basic science, engineering, biotechnology and clinical specialties. As we work together to develop a comprehensive plasma medicine program, it is important that we appreciate, understand and collaborate across these disciplines. A cross section of professionals from the basic sciences, biotechnology affiliations, and clinical departments exchanging research goals and project ideas should provide opportunities for interdisciplinary and translational research in plasma medicine.

Nanoscale corona discharges in liquids receives full-page coverage in Nature

Our paper on nanoscale corona discharges in liquids, which was recently published in Angewandte Chemie (link), has received a full-page coverage in the News and Views section of Nature magazine. There they highlighted the probe's small size, novel plasma, and potential impact on analytical chemistry. The paper has also received coverage on two science news web sites, nanotechweb.org and nanowerk.com.

Read more about this work in the College of Engineering press release here.

Dear Colleagues,

ICPM-2, the Second International Conference on Plasma Medicine, which will take place March 16-20, 2009 in San Antonio, Texas, is now accepting Digests that are about 300 words in length for the conference presentations. The deadline for the Digest submission is November 10, 2008. Please e-mail either pdf or MS-Word version of your digest to Yelena Alekseyeva at yna23@drexel.edu. To be accepted, the digest must identify the presenting author. The digest should be a summary of original work in fields related to Plasma Medicine and could cover the topics such as fundamentals of interaction between plasma and living systems, new applications of plasma in medicine, design of plasma systems for medical applications, physics of plasma discharges in medicine, plasma chemistry in medicine, etc.  Decisions on the acceptance of the digests will be made by the end of November by the Scientific Program committee of ICPM-2 based on the quality of work and the authors will be notified. Accepted digests will be published in the conference proceedings.
